Melbourne Burgundy Social Club III

The wines of Cote de Nuits

20 May 2016.

At this gathering of the Melbourne Burgundy Social Club we compared Premier Crus from the 2009 vintage in the communes Gevrey-Chambertin, Chmbolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges.

No formal notes were taken.

Venue - Shark Fin Inn (as always).

All wines were tasted blind in 'options' format.

Domaine Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin La Combe Aux Molines Premier Cru

2010 DeBortoli Riorret The Abby Yarra Valley Pinot Noir (another ringer)

Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos Des Porrets Premier Cru

2012 Kay Brothers Hillside McLaren Vale Shiraz (to finish the meal)

Off to a wine bar to try some wine from Sicily.

2013 Girolamo Russo 'a Rina Etna Rosso

It became clear by the end of the tasting that the wines could be identified by commune.

Less so fruit profiles but more structure and style.

Gevrey-Chambertin consistently displayed restrained powerful structure.

Chambolle-Musigny was refined elegance.

Nuits-Saint-Georges was controlled rusticity.

A great night.

  1. Wow!! Great to see this awesome wine tasting event here. I too attended a wine tasting party at one of LA venues. It was really an amazing event where I tasted number of flavored wines. Honestly enjoyed the day.
